After preparing my husband's lunch box I usually sit on the couch, enjoy a cup of coffee and watch whatever is on TV. When I turned on the TV today, I caught a little about "how to live longer?"

There are five essential things you need to do for your everyday life:
1. Eat more fruits and vegetables.
2. Eat nuts.
3. Watch your weight.
4. Make more friends.
5. Be happy.

It looks easy, but I am not sure I can do them all. Making more friends seem the hardest for me. Everybody seems so busy these days. The only chance I get to meet new people are through the internet. But it's not the same. I still want to have a real friend who I can go out with and have a coffee or just chat. I tried to make friends with my neighbors but basically that is just "Hi" and "How are you doing?" They pass by so fast. It seems to say "I'm busy. Don't bother me!" Then I just smile.

I have to admit I am passive when it comes to making a new friend. When I get older, it’s getting harder too. I guess I have to really work on that. I don't want to get older, live longer, but not have a friend. :(

*Who: for someone who knows a little bit about basic beading.
This level includes simple fishing line threading, basic crimping and hiding knots in the bead tip, etc. There is no wire involved.

Example Lesson:

► Level: Easy to Moderate

*Who: for someone who has had some beading experience and wants to learn something new. This level includes simple wire skills, figure 8 and loop cross threading, working with two layers of fishing line and simple re-threading (sharing) beads.

Example Lesson:

► Level: Moderate

*Who: for someone who is comfortable or familiar with fishing line threading, crossing and two layers. This level involved intermediate wire wrapping, cross threading and multiple layers with fishing line, also re-threading (sharing) beads.

Example Lesson:

► Level: Moderate to Advanced

*Who: for someone who is confident with fishing line, crossing, multiple layers and wire. This level includes moderate to advanced fishing line threading techniques and more advanced wire techniques.

What does “Cross a bead” mean?

What does “cross a bead” mean? Good Question!
Let’s follow the figures below:

Let’s say we are holding a fishing line like the picture shown. The fishing line on your lefthand, we will call it “lefthand side fishing line”. On your right hand, we will call it “righthand side fishing line”.

Red colored bead is the crossing bead. Thread the righthand side fishing line through the crossing beads right side hole, and thread the lefthand side fishing line through the crossing beads hole on the opposite side (left side hole) of the bead as shown. That’s how you cross a bead.

When you cross a bead, it usually makes a loop. It might not look like it, but imagine the beads are transparent, the fishing line should look like a circle.

Sometimes you might see a graphic like the one above on a beading instruction.

Those squiggle lines (red color) represents that there is a section not shown where you repeat the parts on the right or left. Notice that on the left of the squiggle there is a '1' which means the small loop and on the right of the squiggle a loop with the number 8 which means the last full loop. The squiggle represents the exact same loops from 2 to 7, for a total of 8 complete loops.

You might have similar experience as I do, where you find it difficult getting the same loop size on both ends or the rest of the objects. You can simply use a marker to draw a small line on your round-nose pliers, so you know what size loop you are making. :>

1. Bracelet one (on the left) :
Take one 60cm nylon and start from the top (either side is fine), then take another 60cm nylon to finish another part of bracelet as shown.

2. Bracelet two (on the right) :

Use finishing finding to combine clasp and cotton waxed bead cord. After you finish, keep making single knots about 20cm (depends), then use another finishing finding to finish the other end.

Take one 80cm nylon and start at start point, follow the graphic as shown. Finish the first half of bracelet with crimp and hide it in the bead tip. Then take another 60cm nylon and finish the other half the bracelet. (Note: the graphic shows the single thread with two colors, this is just to illustrate which portion goes through which bead)

Tips for working with wire

1. Before starting your project, carefully unwind (straighten) the wire.
2. Wire is reasonably strong when wrapped, however it is weakened when it is wound and then unwound and then re-wound. You will be tempted to unwind the wire if the wrapping doesn't appear perfect. This should be avoided since the wire will be weakened and may break with continuous winding and unwinding.

How to open/close a round jumpring?

This round jump ring is used for connecting other components together. To open or close a round jumpring, using two long nose pliers, gently lift the loop up from above and bottom as shown. Do not pull the loop straight out or the round shape will be distorted.

Making a perfect loop

Step 1
Using your long nose pliers, bend the wire to form a right angle as close to the bead as possible.

Step 2
Using cutter pliers, remove any excess wire, leaving approximately 8mm of wire.

Step 3
Roll the wire around the tip of the round nose pliers to form a complete circle centered over the wire stem.
